Cold Weather Shelter
EUMC and several area churches facilitate the Lynnwood Cold Weather Shelter Network. The South Snohomish Emergency Cold Weather Shelter Network is open through March based on current weather forecasts.
People seeking overnight shelter in the Lynnwood area are to gather at Fire Station 15 in Lynnwood (18800 44th Ave W, Lynnwood) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and at the Lynnwood Library (19200 44th Avenue West, Lynnwood) on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 7:00pm for transportation to the shelter sites hosted by local churches. The shelter network is open to families, women, and men and can accomodate 50 people with preference given to young, elderly, and the ill.
Evening and morning meals will be provided, and guests will be transported back at 7:00 am the next morning. Pets will be accomodated to the best of our ability. For information or to volunteer, contact Bill Ellis.
Edmonds City Council ActsTo Support Cold Weather Shelter
Edmonds City Council, by a unanimous 5-0 vote on December 15, directed staff and the Planning Board to review the existing Ordinance 3730, to incorporate the greatest amount of flexibility for proposed temporary shelters as is possible, and commits the City of Edmonds to join other jurisdictions in taking the most aggressive course available to ensure the safety and shelter of individuals and families during cold weather months or times of calamity or natural disaster through implementation of alternative solutions to the existing Cold Weather Shelters Minimum Safety Guidelines.
Several ministers and volunteers, including Bill Ellis, Bob Schroff, and Bill Lambert, attended the Council meeting. Ellis spoke in support of the Resolution.
