We are catalysts working together to expand the capacities and commitment of individuals, groups, and the entire church community of faith to reach out to people in need. We follow Jesus' teaching now to go forth in love to the community and the world. We are not afraid of the size of the task. We are assured by scripture -- 1 Chronicles 28:20:
Be strong and courageous and get to work. For the Lord, my God is with you. He will not forsake you. He will see to it that everything is finished correctly.
We choose to join with others in His name to put an end to extreme global poverty in this decade. As a Church, building on our foundational principals:
Identity
Community
Learn
Worship
Cherish
Serve
We are called to live in the light..to open our hearts...to sing a new song:
To act with justice,
To love tenderly,
To serve one another
There are many ways to give:

Gillespie Endowment Fund
The Gillespie Endowment Fund was established in June 2007 to recognize Dave & Kris Gillespie & their leadership in building Edmonds United Methodist Church as a mission church. Each year grants are to be awarded to mission service initiatives that are not supported through the annual budget. The proceeds on the endowment were dispersed last year to homeless women of The Church of Mary Magdalene and the prison ministry of Opening Blind Eyes. Investment income has gone down this past year, and fewer funds will be available to support worthy programs. Please consider donating a contribution, alternative gift or memorial to the endowment fund.
These books provided members insight into microlending as an effective way to attack poverty. With a traditional donation, a person or group of people is helped, but the money is gone. With microlending, however, people are helped to help themselves and then are hopefully taken off the roles of the impoverished. Furthermore, the loaned money is recycled, helping more and more people - how powerful!
These readings and discussions inspired our church to search for ways to be more involved in microlending, and led members to Kiva, which they see as a most effective, efficient, and human way to mechanize microlending. As a result, members set up a church Kiva lending team to rally and motivate the entire congregation (800+) to band together as a community of faith and support microlending as an expression of that faith.
