David Hendrix comes to EUMC after having served as the Director of Music Ministries at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Bellevue for the past five years, where his responsibilities included directing the choir and worship band, planning and coordinating all service music and leading worship as the cantor. Under his direction the music ministry presented performances of Gabriel Faure’s Requiem and John Stainer’s The Crucifixion for worship, revitalized Christmas Eve services with the King’s College service of Nine Lessons and Carols and spearheaded a new Easter Vigil service during Holy Week. This past year he has enjoyed more opportunities for creativity in special service planning, designing contemporary liturgical services for the church seasons of Advent and Lent.
In addition to his church work, David sings professionally throughout the Pacific Northwest as a soloist and ensemble member. Most recently he has sung and recorded with Tudor Choir, Byrd Ensemble and Portland based choral ensemble Capella Romana. He was also featured as a tenor soloist with the Portland Baroque Orchestra this spring. David is a collaborator with Coastland Commons, a community of Seattle based clergy and artists dedicated to creating new works of art around the greater church narrative.
David studied music education and vocal performance at St. Olaf College and Pacific Lutheran University. He lives in downtown Edmonds with his wife, Sarah, and their twin boys, Forest and Alden. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, coaching at his local CrossFit gym and spending time out and about with Sarah and their boys. He looks forward to forming new relationships with members of the EUMC community and to leading them in worship as the new Music Director.
