Racial Justice Advocacy

If you feel that you cannot go back to “not noticing” racial harm and injustice and want to do something about it, this group is for you!

The EUMC Racial Justice Team was born out of the realization that we have been silent about racism in our world and in the church far too often. Speaking out and acting out against racism (in ourselves and in others) is a necessary part of living out our Christian faith. As a group member, you will be both challenged and encouraged.

The Racial Justice Team meets weekly (Thursday evenings, 7:00-8:30pm) over Zoom, with future in-person or hybrid meetings anticipated. The time is split between reflecting on the history and current events around racism and taking collective actions to progress racial justice in our church and greater community. (Not everyone can make every meeting and that’s okay.)

Ongoing and New Events and Projects:

  • Assisting with decolonizing, enriching, and reorganizing the church library

  • Weekly racial justice insights posted in the EUMC News

  • Researching Reparations to see what can be done locally and nationally

  • Educating the congregation on antiracism

  • Taking part in the Red Dress Project for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women

  • Being present to witness and learn from local Indigenous groups (Totem Pole journeys), and People of Color (Vigils held locally)

  • Educate and encourage attendance at cultural events such as AAPI month events
