Environment Advocacy

The Environment Team currently emphasizes the climate crisis, including what we can do as a church and what we can do as individuals to reduce our impact on the planet, its people, animals, and plants. As a celebration of Earth Day, each year we sponsor Earth Sunday activities, worship services, and emphasis on one or more of the many ways we can reduce our carbon footprints. The 2022 emphasis was on Trees, great sequesters of carbon. We partnered with the Snohomish Conservation District for a tree give-away for our children, with education sessions on tree care.  In 2023, the Earth Day emphasis was on general sustainability, especially electrification of all kinds:  vehicles, homes, businesses, church, et al.

 Other current projects include:

  • Providing Ways Members Can Reduce their carbon

  • Continuing to reduce and/or eliminate fossil fuel investments by EUMC

  • Contacting state legislators regarding current and future climate-related legislation

  • Researching solar opportunities
