Environment Advocacy

The Environment Team currently emphasizes the climate crisis, including what we can do as a church and what we can do as individuals to reduce our impact on the planet, its people, animals, and plants. In April each year, in celebration of Earth Day, we sponsor one or more Earth Sunday activities, worship services, and emphasis on one or more of the many ways we can reduce our carbon footprints. The 2026 emphasis is on Trees, great sequesters of carbon. We are partnering with Friends of Edmonds Trees (FOET) for a color brochure highlighting City of Edmonds Trees, and a tree give-away.

Other current projects include: 

• Assessing the carbon footprint of the Edmonds UMC building

• Reducing and eliminating fossil fuel investments by Edmonds UMC

• Contacting state legislators regarding current and future climate-related legislation

• Finishing the solar panels and batteries and evaluating other carbon reductions opportunities

• Planning a brochure with explanations of trees on the church property
